Life Of A Firefighter

Firefighters lead a hard life, not only because the job is tough, but the risks are even greater. Firefighters do not just fight fires; they provide many rescue services like emergency services, paramedic services, extrication, ice rescue, confined space rescue, and water rescue.

There is no wonder that it is not easy to find a firefighter willing to dedicate his life to the job and take it as a career. There was a shortage of 5000 firefighters in the UK last year, and the lack of a workforce is only on the rise.

Here are some things to know about firefighters:

  1. Firefighters Can’t Be Late

Firefighters start their day early no matter what. They cannot call in sick if they don’t feel like going or take a casual leave to go to the mall. Their day begins with a roll call and inspection of the apparatus to ensure everything is working perfectly.

Since fires do not watch the clock and go off when convenient for others, firefighters are always on their toes because a call can come any time.

  1. Firefighting Is A Thankless Job

Imagine you are present in a place where fire erupts. You scamper out of the area and then help the others evacuate safely. When the firefighters arrive, they go in and rescue everyone who is trapped inside and save them all. In this situation, neither you nor the rescued persons would be in a state of mind to chat with the firefighters and thank them graciously for their efforts. The same thing would happen every time the firefighters put out a fire and rescue somebody. They rarely receive a compliment compared to people working in offices who expect to be appreciated for every paragraph they write.

  1. Firefighters Have Annoyed Families

We don’t expect a person to come to work or even pick a call outside working hours. But firefighters can be called at any time of the day or night if there is a workforce shortage. They might have to leave their families in the middle of a vacation or miss out on important occasions.

While their families are disappointed by their absence, they also understand that the firefighters work for a noble cause that should be admired and celebrated.

Considering the tough life of firefighters, the least we can do is to help them do their job well. If we can install a fire suppression system in our homes or offices, we will save a lot of time and energy for the firefighters, possible relieving them a bit from the hectic schedule and leaving them with some family time.

It is important to note that we should install a Water Mist System to suppress fires because it suppresses the fire, washes the smoke, and lowers the heat with a mist. With a water mist system put in to protect you and your property, you will have played your part in also improving the safety of firefighters.
